Recap of August 28th, 2005
Brent Metheny proved Sunday night that there is absolutely nothing he can't do.

The Mavericks third baseman and captain served as relief pitcher in game one, and a hitting star in game two as Mid-MO split a pair of games with Rockford at Taylor Stadium. The Mavericks were routed 12-4 in the opener, but came from behind to win the nightcap 6-5.

After three Mid-MO runs in the first inning of game 2, the River Hawks slowly chipped away at the lead and eventually pulled ahead 4-3 in the fifth, and added an insurance run in the seventh.

But that's when the Mavs fought back.

Elliot Ayala banged a double to start the bottom of the 7th. Rockford manager Mike Young then elected to take out All-Star closer Jason Glosser and inserted lefty Derek Ellison, in what turned out to be an ill-advised decision. Dusty Hillman yanked a double down the left field line to knife the lead in half, and Metheny, who had already collected one game-tying RBI hit off Ellison this season, drove in Hillman with a single. Two batters later, Bryce Morrison roped a shot off the tip of Aaron McEachran's mitt, and the ball rolled in the infield grass. Metheny scored all the way from second to give Mid-MO the victory.

That win, which was the 30th of the season, felt good for the Mavs following a forgettable opener, except for Metheny's role on the hill. After the River Hawks scored nine runs in two innings off starter Nate Kuhns, and three more off Adam Clay, Metheny was inserted in the contest and pitched two shutout innings, exibiting a lively fastball and a pair of plus off-speed pitches.

Mid-Missouri plays their second to last home game tonight at 7:05 PM against Rockford, as it is the last U.S. Cellular/KRCG/KPLA Community Night of the year. You can catch all the action live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 27th, 2005
It took five hours and fifty minutes, but Mid-Missouri got their doubleheader sweep. And it was worth it.

The Mavericks took a pair of games from River City at Taylor Stadium Saturday, winning 11-7 and 8-7. Mid-MO (29-55) captured four wins in the five-game set, and have now closed the gap to 2.5 games behind fifth place Windy City. Mid-MO also exceeded their win total for 2004, when the Mavs went 28-66.

Mid-Missouri scored at least a run in every inning during game one, taking the lead for good on an Elliot Ayala RBI double. The Mavs were also aided by three River City errors. In the finale, the Rascals got off to a 5-1 lead, before the Mavericks scored a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings to draw even, and plated three runs in the fifth to take the lead for good. Eziquiel Perez tossed four innings of relief to collect the win, while Cooper Eddy recorded saves in both halves of the doubleheader.

Mid-Mo is not finished with their twin billings, as they place two against Rockford tonight, beginning at 5:05 PM. All the action can be heard live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 26th, 2005
After a fourteen innings of doubleheader baseball, the Mavericks were expected to be sluggish Friday. However, sluggish didn't mean five errors.

Mid-Missouri committed a season-high tying five miscues en route to dropping a 9-6 decision to River City at Taylor Stadium. The Rascals (40-43) recorded a big victory for their playoff hopes, remaining three and a half behind wild card occupant Rockford. The Mavericks (27-55), blew a chance to win three in a row at home for the first time season.

In a game played in front of Columbia mayor Darwin Hindman and Frontier League commissioner Bill Lee, as it was Darwin Hindman bobblehead night, Mid-MO broke a scorless tie in the fourth with a pair of runs. However, River City charged ahead in the seventh with four runs, and added five more in the eighth to put the game out of reach. Mid-Missouri committed three of their five blemishes during those two frames and could not recover.

The Mavericks will conclude their series with River City by participating in another doubleheader, beggining at 6:05 PM tonight. After the two seven inning contests are completed, all fans are invited to stay on to watch the final fireworks spectacular of the year as part of Inside Columbia Magazine/COOL 104 Spectacular Saturday. The game can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 25th, 2005
Never has following Ernie Banks' advice of "playing two" sounded any better.

Mid-MO swept a doubleheader Thursday at Taylor Stadium, annihilating River City 11-1 in the first contest, and winning the second game 2-1. The Mavericks (27-54) helped hamper River City's playoff aspirations, sending the Rascals (39-43) four games back of second place Rockford in the West.

The Mavs teed off on Rascals ace Aaron Ledbetter, who saw his league leading ERA balloon almost six tenths of a run after yielding eight hits in just 1.2 innings. Mid-MO, who was the designated road team for the completion of an August 12 game, plated a quartet of runs in the third and fourth innings to quickly place the game out of reach. Alex Derhak, Bryce Morrison, and Dusty Hillman went deep for the Mavs, who got a complete game, 4-hit performance from pitcher Jesse Ellison.

Auggie Rodriguez, making his first start since July 15, followed Ellison's lead and tossed seven brilliant innings, scattering just three hits and an unearned run in the latter matchup. River City scratched that run across in the first, but saw Mid-MO even it up on another Morrison round-tripper. The score stayed deadlocked at one until the 6th, when first baseman Wayne Astrauskas, who was cut by River City during spring training, launched a solo HR to left-center.

The Mavericks will look for three in a row against their in-state rivals tonight at 7:05 PM from Taylor Stadium. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive free bobblehead dolls from mayor Darwin Hindman, as part of Boone County National Bank/News Talk 1400 KFRU Freebie Friday. You can catch all the action live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 24th, 2005
It became apparent early in the season that the Mid-Missouri Mavericks would not be threatning for a playoff spot. However, that wasn't official until Wednesday night.

The Mavericks (25-54) were mathmatically eliminated from the Frontier League playoff picture, falling 9-2 to Gateway from GMC Stadium. The Grizzlies (41-40) completed the sweep and pulled within one game of second place Rockford.

Once again, Mid-Mo pitching ran afoul of a red hot Grizzlies offense, who outscored the road team 35-13 over the three contests. After the Mavs scored a run in the second inning, Phil Warren smacked a two-run double to right center in the bottom of the inning to give Gateway the lead for good. The Grizzlies tallied three more fifth inning runs to knock starter Damien Dantibo (2-3) out, and Mike Breyman tattooed a 2-run homer in the sixth.

Mid-Mo begins a nine game, six homestand tonight with a twin billing against River City. The first 7-inning contest, which is the completion of August 12th suspended matchup at T.R. Hughes, will get underway at 6 PM. LHP Jesse Ellison will take the mound in the opener, with Auggie Rodriguez scheduled to throw the second 7-inning game. You can hear all the action live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 23rd, 2005
There's no stopping the Gateway Grizzlies offense right now.

Mid-Mo has failed in both of their attempts this series, as the Mavericks fell 11-3 at GMC Stadium Tuesday. Mid-Missouri pitching has yielded 26 runs and 37 hits through the first two contests of the series against Gateway (40-40), who reached the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Grizzlies also won their season-best fifth game in a row, and have pulled within one game of second place Kalamazoo for the coveted West Division wildcard spot.

The Grizzlies made their offense presence felt early on, putting up a three spot in the second inning, and added three more in the third, knocking Maverick starter Nate Kuhns (0-1) out after 2.1 innings. The bullpen didn't fare much better, as Ryan Sullivan's 2-run blast put the Grizzlies ahead 10-0.

Mid-Mo would register their trio of runs in the seventh frame on three consecutive 2-out RBI singles hit by Josh Wettlaufer, Elliot Ayala, and Dusty Hillman. The Mavericks will try to avoid the sweep and play the role of spoiler Wednesday in the series finale at GMC Stadium. RHP Damien Dantibo takes the mound for Mid-Mo, and you can hear the 7:05 first pitch live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 22nd, 2005

The Mid-Missouri Mavericks were in the middle of another franchise record performance Monday. Unfortunately, they were on the wrong end of this one.

Gateway pounded out a club record 21 hits en route to a 15-7 victory at GMC Series, opening the series with their fourth straight win. The Mavericks (25-52) fall back to 4.5 games behind fifth place Windy City, while the Grizzlies (39-40) are now just two back of wildcard leader Kalamazoo. Mike Breyman also tied a Gateway record by tallying five hits. Breyman's 5-6 day included a 3rd inning home run, which was one of three hit in the 3rd. Ben Margalski and Freddie Lopez also went deep as part of a 7-run frame, which set the tone for a persistent Gateway explosion.

The Mavericks tried to answer on the strength of two Dusty Hillman round-trippers. Hillman's 3-run homer in the ninth helped power Mid-Mo to a 5-run inning, but it was not enough. Mavericks pitching got shelled the whole night, beggining with Brad Smith, who yielded eight hits and seven runs in just 2.1 innings. Smith entered the game with a 0.56 ERA in three appearances since joining the Mavs.

Mid-Missouri will try to shake off the cobwebs and even up the series tonight from Sauget, IL. First pitch is at 7:05 PM, with RHP Nate Kuhns making his second professional start. The game can be heard live on the web at www.midmomavs.com

Recap of August 21st, 2005
It took a record setting inning for the Mid-Missouri Mavericks to avoid a Ohio Valley sweep.

Mid-Mo scored a franchise record 12 runs and sent 16 hitters to the plate in the eighth inning, which enabled the Mavs to come from behind and record a 15-7 victory Sunday at Taylor Stadium. Mid-Missouri (25-51) also drew within three and a half games of fifth place Windy City in the Frontier League's West Division.

The Mavericks pounded out 10 hits during the eighth frame, including a bases clearing double by new Maverick DH Bryce Morrison, who was 2-5 with 4 RBIs in his first Mid-Missouri contest. Josh Wettlaufer also launched his first home run of the year in the eighth, helping the Mavericks climb back from a 4-3 deficit.

Nick Renault pitched seven innings, and did not chalk up a decision following five hits and four earned runs allowed. Instead, the win went to Eli Sledge (1-0) who tossed the final two innings in relief.

Mid Missouri now heads to Sauget, IL to begin a three-game series with Gateway. Brett Smith takes the mound at GMC Stadium for the 7:05 opener, which can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com

Recap of August 20th, 2005
Mid-Missouri's offense was in full gear yesterday for two innings. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough.

The Mavericks scored three runs in the first and eight innings but fell 8-6 to Ohio Valley at Taylor Stadium. Mid-Mo(24-51) lost their second game in a row and will try to avoid the sweep in tonight's rubber match.

The Mavs came out swinging against Ohio Valley starter Danny Bonilla, as Brent Metheny's 2-run opposite field homer put the caps on a 3-run first. However, the Redcoats answered with a trio of runs off Mid-Mo starter Jesse Ellison to take the lead in the second frame.

After that, Bonilla morphed into a completely different pitcher as he retired 12 Mavericks in a row and held the home team hitless until the bottom of the 8th. Dusty Young broke the skid with a solo homer, and Metheny lashed a 2-run single, but it was too little, too late.

Tonight's series finale is at 6:05 PM from Taylor Stadium. Nick Renault gets the ball for Columbia Daily Tribune Family Night. You can catch all the action live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 19th, 2005
Ohio Valley entered their game with the Mavericks carrying the second worst average in the league. Too bad the Mavericks didn't see that team.

The Redcoats scored six runs in the first two innings to knock Maverick starter Damien Dantibo out, and coasted to a 14-7 victory Friday at Taylor Stadium. The loss was the 50th of the season for Mid-Missouri, who has allowed 44 Redcoats runs over four meetings.

Ohio Valley plated three in the first on a RBI double by Travis Garcia and a 2-run single off the bat of Kaliko Oligo. The Redcoats put another three on the board during the second inning via a Nick Batkoski home run.

The Redcoats scored five more unearned runs off reliever Eli Sledge in the 3rd to help withstand 11 Mid-Mo hits and some eventual late inning scoring. Elliot Ayala ripped his first home run of the year and continued his hot hitting, posting a 3-5 day in the leadoff spot, while Alex Derhak also collected three hits. Eziquiel Perez tossed 4.2 innings of one run ball out of the Mavs bullpen.

Mid-Missouri will look to tie the series up tonight as they send LHP Jesse Ellison to the mound. First pitch on Inside Columbia Magazine/Cool 104 Spectacular Saturday is at 7:05 PM, and the game can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 18th, 2005
After Mid-Mo's heartbreaking 13 inning defeat on Wednesday, a question remained to how the Mavericks would respond in their series finale. Apparently, the response was pretty good.

Mid-Missouri came from behind to down Evansville 10-7 at Bosse Field Thursday night, and prevented the Otters from recording the sweep and gaining more ground in the East Division wildcard race. It was the Mavs (24-49) first franchise victory in eight tries at Evansville, and snapped a three-game losing skid.

The Mavericks scored eight runs over the last three innings to make up a 7-2 deficit and got big home runs from the most unlikely of sources. Wayne Astrauskas, just 2-21 entering ply last night, skied a 3-run homer in the 7th to bring Mid-Missouri to 7-5. Then, after a Brett Winn 2-run double in the eighth put the Mavericks on top, Thomas Bowker capped off the late inning scoring spree by launching his first round tripper of the season in the top of the 9th.

Nate Kuhns put in a yeoman-like 3.1 innings in an emergency start for Steve Soja, who was a late scratch due to a back injury. While the relief pitching was shaky in the middle stages of play, Adam Clay (1-0) and Cooper Eddy tossed three innings of scorless ball to chalk up the win and save respectively.

Mid Missouri returns home in the final weekend of inter-division play to take on the Ohio Valley Redcoats. First pitch of the opener is at 7:05 PM, and the first 1,000 fans recieve free mini-FM radios courtesy of Children's Hospital, as part of News Talk 1400 KFRU Freebie Friday. You can also catch the broadcast live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 17th, 2005
It might have been the longest game of the season, but
in the end it felt like the same disheartning result.

In a game that remained scoreless through 12 innings, the Mavericks plated two runs in the top of the 13th, but saw the Otters respond with a pair of dramatic home runs to win 3-2 at Bosse Field. Evansville (42-35) won their season-high fourth win in a row, while Mid-Mo (23-49) dropped their third straight, and fell 4.5 behind fifth place Windy City.

Evansville's Trask Munoz hit a walk-off homer over the right field fence on the first offering he saw from Auggie Rodriguez. Munoz's shot came two batters after Rodriguez allowed a game tying 2-run blast to catcher Jeff Goldbach. The Otters needed all three of those runs after the Mavs broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 13th with an Elliot Ayala RBI single, and another run driven in via a Dusty Hillman groundout.

Up to that point, the 1,508 fans at Bosse Field were treated to 12 frames of outstanding pitching. Brett Smith shut the Otters out through eight innings, yielding just three hits, while Brian Kroll put up nine goose eggs for Evansville.

The Mavericks look to recover from the heartbreaking setback and avoid the sweep tonight at 7:05 PM as Steve Soja takes the mound. The game can be heard live on the internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 16th, 2005
Cody Blackard officially has the Mid-Missouri Mavericks number.

The Evansville southpaw tossed 7.2 shutout innings, helping the Otters blank Mid-Missouri 3-0 at Bosse Field Tuesday. Mid-Missouri (23-48) registered seven hits in their first completed game since Thursday, but left nine on base, marking the second time they've put up a goose egg for a game, and the second time they could not mount a run off Blackard, who threw 6.1 innings July 7 at Taylor Stadium without surrendering a run.

Nick Renault (7-6) yielded just a pair of runs in seven strong innings, but suffered the tough luck defeat. Renault's lone blemish was allowing a 4th inning RBI double to Evansville left fielder David Gingrich. The Otters (41-35) plated their other two runs in the eighth, as Trask Munoz and Mike Spry both tallied RBI extra base hits off Maverick reliever Cooper Eddy. Josh Wettlaufer, Dusty Hillman, and Alex Derhak each paced Mid-Mo with two hits a piece.

The Mavs look to even up the series tonight at 7:05 PM from Bosse Field. RHP Brett Smith gets the ball for Mid-Mo, and the game can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 11th, 2005
Hard luck Steve Soja.

The Mavericks' ace hurler has been the victim of many bad breaks this season...but nothing compared to last night. The Gateway Grizzlies tallied six runs in the second inning and coasted to a 7-4 win over Mid-MO. The Grizzlies victory moved the team to 34-37 – just four games out of first place in the West – while the Mavs fell to 23-47.

Soja (5-8) allowed seven hits in the second inning, but the Mavs' defense committed two errors before and in between many of the hits. All six Grizzlies runs were unearned. So far this season, of the 67 runs Soja has allowed, only 30 have been earned.

One bright note for Mavericks' fans - Brent Metheny's seventh inning single gave him 100 hits on the season. His 2005 hit total eclipsed the Mavericks' single season record of 99 set in 2003 by Billy Greenwell.

The Mavs will try to pull things together on the road, as they head down I-70 for a three game set with the River City Rascalls. Game time is set for 7:05 PM and can be heard live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 10th, 2005
This time, Nick Renault didn't have to worry about run support.

The Mid-Missouri Mavericks broke a five-game losing skid, whipping the Gateway Grizzlies 12-5, as every Mavericks starter tallied at least one hit. The win was also Mid-Mo's first at Taylor Stadium since July 28.

Renault, who had suffered back to back losses despite just three combined runs allowed, tossed 6.1 inning to garner his team-leading seventh victory of the year. Renault yielded a season-high six walks, but otherwise pitched very well, surrendering just one earned run while fanning 10 Grizzlies, including Ryan Sullivan four times.

The Mavs scored most of their runs in bunches, plating three runs in the third inning, five in the fourth, and three more in the seventh. Alex Derhack led Mid-Mo with three hits, while Thomari Story-Harden, who grounded into a rally killing double play Monday, laced a bases loaded 2-run double down the left field line as part of the 5-run fourth frame. Story-Harden finished the game with 3 RBI.

Mid-Missouri will look to win just their second home series of the year, as they face the Grizzlies in the rubber match tonight before heading to O'Fallon, MO. First pitch of Miller Lite/100.1 BUZZ Beer Night is at 7:05 PM, and the game can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 9th, 2005
A change in scenery did not bring a change in result for the Mid-Missouri Mavericks.

Following a 1-5 road trip, the Mavs returned to Taylor Stadium, but fell 6-3 to Gateway Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series. The loss was Mid-Mo's (22-46) fifth in a row and they now fall four games behind fifth place Windy City in the West Divison.

The Mavs got on the board first via an RBI single from Dusty Hillman, who tallied three hits. However, Gateway quickly tied it in the second, and plated three runs to surge ahead for good in the 3rd inning. The Grizzlies sent Damien Dantibo(2-1) to the showers after just four innings, recording seven hits and four runs, resulting in the 19-year old's shortest outing of the year.

The Mavs pounded out 13 hits off a quartet of Grizzlies pitchers, but were unable to muster much scoring, leaving 11 men on base.

Mid-Mo will look to snap out of their funk tonight at 7:05 PM on Isle of Capri Casino/News Talk 1240 KLIK/Columbia Missourian Deuces Wild Wednesday. RHP Nick Renault takes the hill for the middle portion of this three game series, which will be broadcasted live on the Mavericks website, www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 8th, 2005
The Mid-Missouri Mavericks tried to do almost everything humanly possible to prevent the Washington Wild Things making history. In the end, it just wasn’t enough.

The Wild Things won their Frontier League record twelfth straight game, knocking off the Mavs 2-1 to sweep the three game series at Falconi Field Monday night. Washington plated the decisive run in the 8th inning on a Pat O’Brien infield single. The Mavericks lost their fourth straight game and remain three games out of fifth place.

Brent Smith looked impressive in his first Mid-Missouri start, yielding just three hits and an earned run in six innings. His efforts were matched by Washington ace Brian Burks, who allowed five hits and one earned run in seven innings.

The Mavericks scored their lone run in the first on a Brent Metheny RBI single fisted to shallow right field. Washington then tied things up in the bottom of the third inning on a Lance Koening RBI double smacked off the left-center fence. The score remained 1-1 until the eighth when a Dusty Young error led the way to O’Brien’s hit. Metheny attempted to make a back-handed stop and throw behind third base on O’Brien’s ground-ball, but his throw was late allowing the winning run to score.

The Mavericks return home for a three game set with the Gateway Grizzlies on Tuesday night. Right-hander Damien Dantibo will toe the rubber for Mid-MO. Game time is 7:05 and you can hear the game live on the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 7th, 2005
The Mid-Missouri Mavericks were unable to stand in the way of a torrid team and a record tying achievement.

The Washington Wild Things (44-24) won their 11th straight game, handling the Mavericks (22-44) 14-4 on Sunday at Falconi Field. The win ties the Frontier league record for most consecutive victories.

Mid-Mo, meanwhile drops their third straight game and missed a chance to pick up a game on fifth place Windy City , who also lost. The Mavs remain three back of the Thunderbolts in the West Division.

After 10 errors through the first four games, Mid-Missouri played clean baseball, but were unable to get effective pitching. Starter Jesse Ellison (0-1) tossed well out of the chute, but yielded three runs in the third, and walked four consecutive batters in the fifth inning before he was relieved.

Mid-Mo cut the lead to 7-4 with a pair of runs in the sixth, but Washington exploded for seven eighth inning runs off relievers Eziquiel Perez and Adam Clay. Thomari Story-Harden drove in three runs, and is now 4-8 over the first two games of the series, while Josh Wettlaufer, Greg Buscher, and Brett Winn each tallied a pair of hits in the loss.

The Mavs look to avoid the sweep and thwart Washington from pulling off their historical accomplishment at 6:05 PM from Falconi Field. RHP Brett Smith makes his first professional start for Mid-Missouri. The game will be broadcasted live on the internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 6th, 2005
When Steve Soja takes the mound, counting on good defense behind him is becoming a rare occurrence.

Yesterday, the Mavs committed four errors, leading to four unearned runs, which helped propel Washington to a 6-2 win at Falconi Field. The win was the Wild Things (43-24) 10th in a row, while Mid-Mo (22-43) fell to 1-3 on their road trip.

Soja yielded seven hits in six frames, and shut down the high powered Washington lineup for the most part. However, the Wild Things scored three runs in the second inning, helped in part by a Dusty Young error. Washington added a trio in the sixth, as Dusty Hillman's two-out error loaded the bases and prolongued the inning for Andy Hudak, who cleared the runners with a triple.

Thomari Story-Harden tallied two hits for the Mavericks, including his team-leading 15th home run of the season, while Brian Baker also recorded a pair of hits. Mid-Mo also terminated Matt Swope's 26 game hit streak, as the Wild Things leadoff hitter went 0-5.

The Mavericks look to even up the series tonight with LHP Jesse Ellison taking the hill for Mid-Missouri. First pitch is at 5:35 PM and the game can be heard live on the internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 5th, 2005
Friday, the Mid-Missouri Mavericks found out why Matt Schweitzer has won more Frontier League games than any other pitcher.

Schweitzer (6-5) picked up his 29th career victory, tossing seven innings of two-run ball, as the Richmond Roosters squeaked past the Mavericks 3-2 at McBride Stadium.

The Roosters won the rubber match to improve to 33-32, while the Mavericks fell to 22-42. The loss came despite a yeoman like effort from Nick Renault (6-5), who struck out eight while allowing nine hits and three runs in eight innings of work.

The Roosters got on the board first with a pair of runs in the second inning and added one in the third off Renault, who would allow only one hit over the final five innings. However, Mid-MO could not provide the righty with enough run support, clocking a pair of solo home-runs – one in the fifth by Brett Winn and another in the seventh by Dusty Hillman – to make the game close. However, Schweitzer stifled the Mavericks for the most part, getting ahead early and often in the count. Matt, who also holds the Frontier League record for most career strikeouts, fanned seven Mavericks batters.

Mid-Missouri now heads to Washington, Pennsylvania to face the Frontier League’s best team the Wild Things – winners of nine in a row. Game one is set for 6:05 PM from Falconi Field with right-hander Steve Soja on the mound for Mid-Missouri. You can catch the contest live on the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 4th, 2005
Being the hero for one day wasn't enough for Thomas Bowker.

In a rare start, the Mavericks right fielder lined a 2-run double down the left field line in the top of the ninth inning to score the go-ahead runs and power Mid-Missouri to a 6-4 victory over Richmond. Bowker's hit helped snap a five-game losing skid and gave the North Carolina native his second game-winning hit in a week versus the Roosters (Bowker laced a 10th RBI single into right-center August 28 to top Richmond at Taylor Stadium).

The Mavericks (22-40) fell behind 2-0 after starter Damien Dantibo allowed a pair of second inning Rooster runs. Dantibo was fantastic after navigating through that rough juncture, yielding just five hits and those two runs over seven innings. Mid-Mo squared the contest in the sixth on a Dusty Hillman RBI single, followed by a passed ball chalked up by Richmond catcher Justus Kimbrough.

That set the stage for the ninth, as the Mavs quickly got runners on 2nd and 3rd against Rooster reliever Hunter Davis. Brian Baker was walked intentionally to road the bases for Bowker, who made Richmond manager Chris Mongiardo pay for his decision, slicing a double just inside the first base bag. The Mavericks plated two more insurance runs, which turned out to be quite important, as Cooper Eddy (3-3) allowed two Richmond runs in the bottom of the 9th before fanning Mike Reese to end the game.

The Mavs will try and capture the series tonight at McBride Stadium before heading to Washington , PA. First pitch is at 6:35 PM and the game can be heard live on the web at www.midmomavs.com

Recap of August 3rd, 2005
For five innings, the Mavericks and Roosters engaged in a see-saw battle. Then as the Mid-Missouri’s bullpen imploded, Richmond’s offense exploded.

The Roosters scored eleven runs off Maverick relief pitching in the sixth and seventh innings and rolled to a 15-3 victory at McBride Stadium Wednesday night. The win improved the Roosters’ record to .500 at 32-32, while the Mavs dropped to 21-41. Mid-Missouri remains one game behind Windy City in the West Division.

The Roosters got on the board with a pair of runs in the first inning off of starter Pete Eberhardt (0-1). Then Mid-MO answered in the third as the Frontier League’s leading hitter Brent Metheny (2 for 3) launched a 2-run homer over the right-center fence off Rooster’s hurler Mike Servera (1-0) that ignited a back and forth battle, as both teams traded runs up until the fifth inning.

Auggie Rodriguez, who finished out the fifth inning, quickly gave up four runs in the sixth inning and was relieved by Phil Ellison. The Roosters would plate another off Ellison to go up 9-3 at the end of the inning. For good measure, the Roosters’ added six more in the seventh inning before Ellison was yanked in favor of Adam Clay.

The Mavericks will look to even up the series tonight in Richmond at 6:30. Right-hander Damien Dantibo will toe the rubber for Mid-MO. You can hear the game live on the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of August 1st, 2005
Sometimes, an efficient offense is not enough.

Monday night, the Mid-Missouri Mavericks fell to Washington 11-8 in the finale of their six-game homestand at Taylor Stadium. The Mavericks dropped their fourth in a row despite ripping 18 hits off a quartet of Washington hurlers.

Five of those 18 hits belonged to first baseman Thomari Story-Harden, who compiled a sizzling 5-5 evening at the plate. Story-Harden's first hit, a single fisted out to short left field, prompted Brent Metheny to score the game's first run in the bottom of the second. That run also ignited a see-saw battle which included six lead changes over the next five innings.

Washington was able to secure the lead for good with a 4-run seventh, capped off by a mammoth Mike Arbinger solo HR off the roof of the right-center warehouse. The moonshot, which traveled an estimated 450 feet, made the score 10-7 Wild Things, and the league's best team did not look back from there.

Jesse Ellison, in his Mid-Mo debut, allowed 11 hits and three earned runs over five innings, chalking up a no-decision. Eziquel Perez (0-1) was saddled with his first loss in relief, doling out six hits and three earned runs in two frames of work.

The Mavericks will enjoy a league-wide break from action Tuesday before they embark on a six-game road trip, beginning Wednesday at Richmond . First pitch from McBride Stadium is at 6:35 PM and the game can be heard live on the internet at www.midmomavs.com

Recap of July 31, 2005
The number six continues to torment the Mid-Missouri Mavericks.

Thursday night, the Mavs gave up ten sixth-inning runs in a 13-7 loss to the Richmond Roosters. And last night, while the sixth inning was fairly uneventful, Washington hung a six spot in both the fourth and ninth innings, and handled Mid-Mo 13-1 at Taylor Stadium. Mid-Mo (21-39) dropped their third straight game and remain one back of fifth place Windy City in the West Division.

The six runs, all served up by Mavericks starter Steve Soja, were unearned runs by virtue of a Elliot Ayala error to begin the frame, one of two errors by the normally sure-handed shortstop. Washington captured a 7-0 lead at that point, and added another six runs in a rainy ninth inning off reliever Rick McKernan. The Mavs lone RBI was tallied by Brent Metheny, who reeled off a pair of hits in his quest to attain the league's highest batting average.

The Mavs end a 12 home game in 15 day stretch tonight as they look to sidestep the sweep. It's U.S. Cellular / KPLA / KRCG Community Night at the ballpark. 100% of Game Day ticket sales will go directly to the United Way of Central Missouri. First pitch is at 7:05 PM and the game can be heard live on the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 30, 2005
It might have been the 59th game of the year, but the Mid-Missouri Mavericks continue to suffer from the same disability that has plagued them since game one: Poor defense.

Last night, the Mavericks committed three defensive errors and other mental miscues en route to a 5-3 loss against Washington from Taylor Stadium. The loss drops Mid-Mo (21-38) back into the West Division cellar.

The Mavs and the Wild Things played clean baseball through the fifth - with each team having scored two runs. However, in the sixth, a ball rifled through the glove of Brent Metheny and led to a Washington run. Elliot Ayala tied it up in the Mavs half of the sixth with a single, and starter Nick Renault (6-4) led off the seventh retiring the first two Wild Things. Then, a harmless pop fly by Lance Koenig glanced off Thomari Story-Harden's glove. The big first baseman then stood still while the ball sat in front of him, allowing Koenig to reach. Renault would subsequently hit Chris Carter and allow the game winning 2-RBI double off the bat of cleanup hitter Mike Arbinger.

The Mavs will look to remedy their defensive woes and square the series tonight on Columbia Daily Tribune Family Night. First pitch is at 6:05 PM and can be heard live on the internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 29, 2005
There is a reason no one associates the number six with anything synonymous to luck.

For the Mid-Missouri Mavericks, playing the sixth inning has brought the worst results, and that trend continued Friday night. Richmond plated 10 runs in the sixth frame en route to a 13-7 victory at Taylor Stadium. The win gives Richmond the series, and ups their record to 29-31, while the Mavs fall to 21-37.

Mid-Mo jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a trio of runs in the 2nd, and Brett Winn's leadoff home run in the bottom of the 4th gave the home team a 4-2 advantage.

Then, the wheels came off as the Roosters plated a run in the 5th, and exploded in the nightmarish 6th, bringing 16 batters to the plate to compile 10 runs off Phillip Ellison and newcomer Adam Clay. The Mavs have now been outscored 74-36 in the sixth inning.

Mid-Mo will start fresh with a three-game series tonight against the Washington Wild Things. First pitch is at 7:05 PM and the game can be heard live on the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 28, 2005
For the early stages of Miller Lite/100.1 The Buzz Beer Night, the main attraction were the various drink specials. But by the late innings, this Buzz beer night became the most exciting Mavericks game at Taylor Stadium this season.

Mid-Missouri came from behind to knock off the Richmond Roosters Thursday 3-2 in 10 innings. The win keeps Mid-Mo (21-36) tied for 5th place in the West with Windy City, and evens the Mavericks inter-division series, setting up Friday's rubber match.

Mid-Mo came from behind twice to deadlock the ball game. The second occasion came in the bottom of the 9th, in which a passed ball by Roosters catcher Justus Kimbrough allowed Thomas Bowker to score the game-tying run, sending the contest in extra innings. Bowker would provide more important heroics in the bottom of the 10th, lacing a single to right-center, scoring Thomari Story-Harden, which vaulted the Mavericks to victory.

Mid-Mo kept pace with the Roosters due to a strong outing by Pete Eberhardt, making a spot start. Eberthardt yielded just three hits and a run in six innings. Three hurlers followed Eberhardt, including Nick Renault (6-3), who tossed the final two hitless innings to garner the victory. The Mavericks will look to capture just their second home series of the year tonight at 7:05 PM from Taylor Stadium. RHP Damien Dantibo looks to run his record to 3-0 for Mid-Missouri. The game can be heard live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 27, 2005
For two innings, the Mid-Missouri Mavericks appeared to be well on their way towards winning their season best fourth game in a row. Then, everything came crashing down.

The Mavericks squandered an early 7-0 lead, and fell 12-10 to the Richmond Roosters in a slugfest Wednesday night at Taylor Stadium. The loss dropped the Mavs record to 20-36 and marked the third time Mid-Mo saw their winning streak halt at three games.

Brian Baker clocked a grand slam into the left field bullpen as part of a six run first inning. After, Mid-Mo added a run in the second, the pitching slowly began to self-destruct. David Marchbanks, following a 3-week stint on the injured list, surrendered a grand slam to Richmond catcher Tony Sanguinetti in the 3rd, bringing the Roosters to within 7-4. Although a Thomari Story-Harden longball would give Mid-Mo some distance, the Roosters would eventually tie the game in the 6th with a 4-run frame, and plated a run in the 7th off Rick McKernan (0-3) to take the lead for good.

The Mavericks will try and shake off the disheartning defeat and even up the series tonight at 7:05 PM on Miller Lite/100.1 The Buzz beer night. RHP Pete Eberhardt makes his first start of the season for Mid-Missouri. The game can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 25, 2005
It's not that the Mid-Missouri Mavericks don't know that their opponent is the defending Frontier League Champions. They just simply don't care.

Mid-Mo outslugged Rockford Monday night 15-11, marking their fourth consecutive victory at Marinelli Field. It's the Mavericks (20-35) third win in a row, and they maintain a game and a half lead over last place Windy City in the West Division.

Mid-Mo jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the 13th home run of the year by Thomari Story-Harden. The Mavs' big first baseman, who has clocked 11 of those round-trippers on the road, went 3-5 with 5 RBI. Rockford (31-25) evened the game up with a 3-spot in the first inning, but weren't in it for long, as Mid-Mo brought up 10 batters in the second frame en route to plating seven unearned runs off losing River Hawks starter Justin Olsen (5-4).

The Mavericks gave Steve Soja plenty of run support, who improved to 5-5 despite allowing eight hits and five runs in five innings. Mid-Mo pounded out 17 hits, and were further aided by a baker dozen River Hawks left on base for the second straight night.

Mid-Missouri will look for the sweep Tuesday at 7:05 PM from Marinelli Field. LHP David Marchbanks comes off the DL to make the start, and the game can be heard on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 24, 2005
Not even a combination of two- and four-legged species in attendance could keep the Mid-Missouri Mavericks from picking up a victory.

The Mavericks won their second in a row, in front of 1,062 fans and dozens of dogs as part of a “Dog Days of Summer” promotion at Marinelli Field Sunday, knocking off the Rockford Riverhawks 3-2. The win was also Mid-Missouri’s third win in a row at Rockford’s home park and improved their record to 19-35.

Nick Renault got the victory, improving to 5-3, after tossing 6.1 strong innings. Renault threw 133 pitches home, allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven. The Mavericks got shut out relief from Phil Ellison and Pete Eberhardt to secure the victory.

Offensively, Brian Baker had an RBI single and Brent Metheny picked up three hits in four at bats.

The Mavs look to make it two in a row over Rockford and three in a row overall Monday, with Steve Soja on the hill for Mid-MO. The first pitch is at 7:05 and you can hear it live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 23, 2005
For one day at least, the Mavericks dethroned royalty.

Mid-Missouri snapped out of a four-game losing streak by defeating the Kalamazoo Kings 6-4 at Taylor Stadium Saturday night. It was the third victory against the Kings this season and the first at Taylor Stadium, where Mid-MO had been outscored 65-20 in the previous five meetings with their intra-division rivals.

Damien Dontibo picked up his second victory in as many starts, throwing seven strong innings and allowing only three runs for Mid-MO. The Mavericks fought back from an early 3-0 hole to tie it up in the 5th. The Mavs took the lead for good on a Greg Buscher home run to lead off the 6th inning. Eli Albertson would add an insurance home run for Mid-MO, who clocked 12 hits, including 11 off losing K-Zoo starter Lee Naplin.

The Mavericks will look to gain some momentum on the road as they head to Rockford for a three game series with the defending Frontier League Champion Riverhawks. Game one is at 6:05 from Marinelli Field. You can catch the broadcast on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 22, 2005
The Mid-Missouri Mavericks avoided the blow out. Unfortunately, they didn’t avoid sacrificing the big Kalamazoo inning.

The Kings put together 4-run frames in the 4 th and 6 th innings, powering them to an 8-4 victory over the Mavericks. The victory keeps Kalamazoo(31-21) atop the West Division by their lonesome, while Mid-Missouri(17-35) lost their fourth in a row, but remain in fifth place in the West by virtue of Windy City losing.

Brent Metheny, who reeled off a 4-5 day, stroked a two-run double over the head of center fielder Daryl Blaze in the first inning to put the Mavs on the board first. The score remained 2-0 until the fourth, when Kalamazoo plated their first quartet of runs, including a pair via a Justin McClain bomb over the left field scoreboard. Mid-Mo knotted the game in the fifth with two runs, but the second Kalamazoo four spot placed the game out of reach.

Mid-Missouri will attempt to avoid getting swept tonight before heading to Rockford. Damien Dantibo gets the ball for a 7:05 first pitch, which can be heard online at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 21, 2005
For four innings, a good Thursday Miller Lite / 100.1 Buzz Beer Night crowd enjoyed a pitcher’s duel. Unfortunately, the Frontier League’s top offense eventually showed up, and then some.

The Kalamazoo Kings (30-21) plated 19 runs over the last five innings, en route to a 19-7 rout over the Mid-Missouri Mavericks at Taylor Stadium. The win was the fifth in a row for the Kings against Mid-Mo, after the Mavs captured the first two in the season series. Kalamazoo has reeled off four of those victories in Columbia, and has outscored Mid-Missouri 57-16 in the quadrant of games.

With starter Auggie Rodriguez being scratched late due to illness, the Mavericks were forced to thrust normal closer Phillip Ellison into starting duty. Making his first start since 2003, Ellison no-hit the Kings through the first four innings, but yielded five runs in the fifth before exiting the contest. Kalamazoo plated four runs in the sixth, and seven runs in inning number seven to take a 16-0 lead. The Mavs pieced together three runs in the bottom of the seventh, and four more in the eighth, but by then, it was far too late.

The loss dropped the Mavericks record to 17-34, but with Windy City dropping a 7-5 decision to Rockford, Mid-Missouri remains one-half game ahead of the last place Thunderbolts in the West Division.

The Mavericks will look to snap a three-game losing skid tonight at 7:05 PM, with RHP Josh Kerschen facing off against Kalamazoo lefty Jonathan Gutierrez. The broadcast can be heard live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 20, 2005
Twelve batters - one inning.

The score was Windy City 4 - Mid-Missouri 2, entering the top of the 7th inning. Mavericks' starter Steve Soja had pitched well yet again, allowing only a single earned run in 5 2/3 innings of work. The Mavericks had just closed the gap to two runs when Josh Wettlaufer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th.

But the wheels came off in the 7th. The Bolts' Clemente Bonilla led the 7th off with a single...Justin Schuda walked...Nick Klusaw was hit by a pitch...Nick Ewen knocked a 2-run single...Jason Crosland reached on an error by Wettlaufer...Matt Ferrara walked with the bases loaded...Jason Alcott stroked a single...Doug Schutt drove in two with a single...Nate Whiteny hit a sacrifice fly...Clemente Bonilla finished off the inning with a run-scoring single. Twelve batters - eight runs.

Final score - Windy City 12, Mid-Missouri 2. The loss gave the Mavericks their second series loss in three series tries against the West Divison's last place team (the Mavs are now only 1/2 game ahead of the 'Bolts).

Lost in the final score was a nice game at the plate from Eli Albertson. The Mavs' All-Star outfielder went 4 for 5 on the evening - raising his average to .327. The Mavericks also welcomed back pitcher J.P. Glasscock. Glasscock pitched for the Mavs last season, and came out of the bullpen to pitch two scoreless innings to close out the game.

The Mavericks are now set to host a three game series with the Kalamazoo Kings. The first pitch for tonight's game is scheduled for 7:05 PM. The game can be heard live on the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 19, 2005
The third time turned out to be the charm for Mike Renery.

The Windy City right-hander pitched seven strong innings and allowed only one run, powering the Thunderbolts to a 3-1 victory over Mid-Missouri at Taylor Stadium on Tuesday. The victory was Renery’s (4-5) first in three tries against the Mavericks this season. The loss dropped the Mavs’ record to 17-32, which is 1.5 games better than Windy City, who improved to 16-34.

The Mavericks lack of offense spoiled a quality start by right-hander Nick Renault (4-3), who was throwing on just two days rest. The starter scattered seven hits and three earned runs in eight innings of work. Renault also struck out 10 Thunderbolts on the evening, which gave him the Frontier League season lead in K’s with 72. One of those hits was a two-run blast to straight-away centerfield by Thunderbolt clean-up hitter Justin Schuda, giving Windy City the lead for good in the fourth inning.

The Mavericks lone run came in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Brian Baker.

The Mavs will try to take their second straight series from the 'Bolts tonight at Taylor Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. The game can be heard live on the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 18, 2005
Monday’s lesson at Taylor Stadium: Be careful who you get rid of.

Brian Baker put that lesson in motion last night, as the Mid-Missouri left fielder launched a three-run homer in the fifth inning, helping propel the Mavericks to a 5-4 win over the visiting Windy City Thunderbolts. The home run was Baker’s first as a Maverick, clocking one over the left-center scoreboard and over the team that traded him earlier this season.

Baker’s shot also helped Damien Dantibo notch a victory in his first professional start. The 19-year old Oregon native, who pitched earlier this year in Japan, settled down from a rough first frame, and tossed six innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Dantibo also struck out six batters, mixing his 94 mph fastball, with an array of off-speed pitches, including quite possibly the Frontier League’s only forkball.

The Mavericks (17-31) got strong relief from Pete Eberhardt in the seventh and eighth, while Phillip Ellison notched his first save of the year, closing it out in the ninth.

The Mavs and the Bolts are set to square off again in the second of a three game set, tonight at 7:05 PM. It's Lodge of Four Seasons / Q106.1 "LUCKY TUESDAY" at Taylor Stadium tonight. The game can be heard live over the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 17, 2005
It wasn't the type of rubber match game that the Mavericks were hoping for. In front of 3,879 at Gateway's GMC Stadium Sunday afternoon, the Grizzlies scored nine runs in a single inning for the second straight day and choked the Mavericks 14-5.

What had been a seesaw battle turned into a blowout in the seventh inning, as the Grizzlies (21-27) scored nine runs. The Grizzlies brought thirteen batters to the plate in the seventh, and scored nine runs on six hits. The scoring happened without a single home run, and the first three runs of the inning were scored on a wild pitch, a walk, and a hit batsman.

Cooper Eddy (2-3) took the loss for the Mavs (16-31), yielding four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of relief work. Grizzlies' reliever Matt Powell (2-2) picked up the win, working three innings and only giving up a single earned run. The Mavericks did compile 10 hits in the game, but left a total of 12 runners stranded on base.

The Mavericks are back in town for the first time in ten days as they prepare for a six game homestand. Tonight the Mavs host the Windy City Thunderbolts. Windy City (15-33) currently sits in last place in the Frontier League's West Division, 1.5 games behind the Mavericks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. The game can be heard live over the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 16, 2005
Saturday was Gateway’s night to take advantage of their hitter’s friendly ballpark. That’s hitter’s with a capital H.

The Grizzlies belted four homers, all over the shallow right side of GMC Stadium, in a nine-run second inning, and that was more than enough to net them a 9-4 win over the Mid-Missouri Mavericks. The win evens the series and Gateway (20-27) widens their fourth place lead back to 3.5 games on Mid-Mo (16-30).

Nick Renault (4-2) dropped his first decision since May 30, yielding seven hits and seven runs in just 1.2 innings. Renault surrendered home runs to Ryan Sullivan, Phil Warren, and Ben Margalski before being yanked from the contest. Ezequiel Perez entered the game, and served up a second round-tripper to Sullivan in his second AB of the inning, before finally getting the Mavs out of a nightmarish second frame.

Mid-Mo was resilient soon thereafter, plating two runs off Erik Dessau in the third, including a run-scoring double by Josh Wettlaufer, who extended his team-high hit streak to 14 games. But that would be all they mustered off Dessau (3-1), who allowed just two hits in seven strong innings. The Mavericks added two runs in the ninth off lefty Eric Ebers before Alex Derhak hit a game ending groundout.

The loss sets up a rubber match tomorrow for Mid-Missouri at a special 3:05 PM start time from Sauget, IL. RHP Josh Kerschen gets the ball for the Mavericks, and the matinee broadcast can be heard live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 15, 2005
There's a right way and a wrong way to start the second half of the 2005 season - the Mavericks started the right way.

Playing in front of 3,589 at Gateway's GMC Stadium, the Mavericks pounded out four home runs on their way to a 10-3 triumph over the Grizzlies.

Mid-Missouri got things started in the third when All-Star Brent Metheny blasted a three-run shot to give the Mavs a lead they would never give up. SS Dusty Young hit a solo homer in the fourth and Metheny added another round-tripper - a solo shot - in the fifth. Newly signed catcher Alex Derhak finished off the Grizzlies with a three-run blast in the ninth. In all, 8 of the Mavs' 10 runs came off the long ball.

The scoring was welcome relief for Mavericks' starter Auggie Rodriguez, who picked up his first win of the season (1-5). Auggie pitched three hit ball through five innings of work, yielding just a single earned run while striking out four. Nick Roush (2-2) took the loss for Gateway, yielding five runs in five innings.

The Mavs and the Grizzlies hook up for the second game of a three game set tonight at 7:05 PM. Nick Renault (4-1) takes the hill for the Mavericks. He'll be opposed by the Grizzlies' Eric Dessau (2-1). The game can be heard live over the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 10, 2005
Turnabout is fair play.

One day after getting bombarded for five opening inning runs, the Mid-Missouri Mavericks plated five runs in the top of the 1st inning, and cruised to a 14-9 victory Sunday over the Ohio Valley Redcoats in Lafayette, IN. The win expanded Mid-Missouri’s fifth-place lead over Windy City to a game and a half, and ensured that the Mavericks (15-28) would not be in last place over the All-Star Break, following a miserable 4-32 start in 2004.

Brent Metheny, one of three Mavs spending their All-Star Break in Washington, Pennsylvania, raised his average to .402 following a 4-5 effort at the plate. Metheny clocked his sixth home run of the year, a 2-run shot off Ohio Valley starter Tom Cochran (1-4) and knocked in four runs. Greg Buscher and Brett Winn also launched round-trippers for Mid-Missouri, who pounded out 16 hits, netting them 27 through the first two games of the series.

Steve Soja (4-4) went five innings to notch the victory and improve his record to .500. Blanton lasted just 3.2 frames for the Redcoats (21-23), shelling out eight runs in the loss.

Mid-Mo will look to capture the rubber match Monday and gain some much needed momentum entering the break. LHP Tony O’Donnell, who started four games earlier this season for Windy City, makes his Mavericks debut on the hill. First pitch has been moved up to 5:05 PM from Loeb Stadium, and the game can be heard at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 9, 2005
The final series before the All-Star break did not get off to a good start.

The Mid-Missouri Mavericks surrendered five runs in the first inning, and were unable to overcome that sizeable deficit, falling 8-3 to the Ohio Valley Redcoats in Lafyette, IN. The Redcoats(21-22) snapped a five-game losing streak in their inaugural game at Loeb Stadium, the third of Ohio Valley's "home parks."

Danny Shuck took the loss for Mid-Mo(14-28), allowing four earned runs and four hits in just one-third of an inning, the shortest start for a Maverick hurler this year. A two-run homer by Nick Batkowski sent Shuck to the showers, and gave Ohio Valley a 5-0 lead.

After strong relief pitching by Pete Eberhardt, who allowed just one run in 4.2 innings, the Mavericks tried to climb back, as Thomari Story-Harden launched a three-run bomb in the sixth inning to bring Mid-Mo within 6-3. However, the Mavericks would not get closer than that, despite four Redcoat errors. Story-Harden finished 3-5 with 3 RBI, while Eli Albertson and Dusty Hillman each cranked out a pair of hits.

The Mavericks will look to even up the series Sunday at 6:05 PM, with Steve Soja on the hill. The game can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 8, 2005
On some days, even a 14-27 team will get all the breaks.

The Mid-Missouri Mavericks plated two runs in a wild bottom of the 9th inning to nip the Evansville Otters 4-3 at Taylor Stadium. The Mavericks avoided the sweep, and more importantly, moved back into 5th place in the West Division after Windy City lost in extra innings.

The Mavs, who had come from behind to tie the contest twice, found themselves trailing 3-2 going into their last-at-bat. Brett Winn led off the bottom of the 9th with a single, and went to second as Ryan Kottke was hit by a Ryan Burnau (2-2) offering while squaring around to bunt. Following a sacrifice by Dusty Young that moved Winn and pinch-runner Thomas Bowker up, Josh Wettlaufer sent a little flare into shallow left. Shortstop Brian McKennna immediately went back, and plowed into left fielder Josh Stewart who made a late break for the ball. McKenna could not hold on to the baseball and it popped out of his glove allowing Winn to come home to tie the score at 3. Stewart, who lay still on the outfield grass for several minutes, had to be taken out of the contest.

With Bowker on 3rd, Dusty Hillman, who had not recorded a hit the entire series, looped a fly ball over the new left fielder Scott Ward, who was drawn in. Bowker touched home plate, giving the Mavericks their second come from behind win during the six-game homestand.

Mid-Mo was armed with solid pitching from Nick Renault, who yielded three earned runs in 7.2 innings. Closer Cooper Eddy tossed 1.1 perfect frames to improve to 1-2.

The Mavericks now head to Lafyette, IN, for a three-game series with the Ohio Valley Redcoats, which will be the final series before the All-Star Break. First pitch Saturday is at 7:05 PM and can be heard on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 7, 2005
The Mid-Missouri Mavericks experienced the triple play after walking off the field Wednesday. Unfortunately, it wasn't a triple play that would make Mavs' fans stand up and cheer.

The Mavericks were shut out for the first time this season, getting blanked by Evansville 4-0 at Taylor Stadium. That result, coupled with Windy City’s 3-2 victory against Richmond, dropped Mid-Mo (13-27) into the West Division cellar for the first time since June 21. And to top it all off, All-Star left fielder Brent Metheny’s hit streak was snapped at 24 games.

For the second consecutive night, the Mavericks could not generate much offense against an Evansville southpaw, as Cody Blackard’s unconventional delivery stifled the Mid-Missouri bats. Blackard, who won for the second time in as many professional starts, yielded just three hits in 6.1 innings, before departing for Nathan Stone, who tossed the final 2.2 frames to earn his second save of the season.

The Otters took advantage of poor Mavericks defense for the second night in a row, as Mid-Mo committed three errors, including two by shortstop Thomas Bowker. The defense was enough to spoil a strong start by Auggie Rodriguez (0-5) who allowed just one earned run in six innings.

Josh Wettlaufer and Eli Albertson each mustered two hits for the Mavericks, while Metheny was left off the hit column for the first time since June 11. The league’s second leading hitter went 0-4 at the plate against the same team that prevented Florence’s Mike Galloway from breaking the single-season Frontier League hit streak earlier this season. Metheny ends his quest six short of equaling Galloway and River City’s Mike Robertson’s feat of 30 consecutive games hit safely.

The Mavericks will look to avoid the sweep, and climb out of the cellar, as Nick Renault (4-1) gets the ball in the finale. First pitch is at 7:05 PM and can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 6, 2005
Five. Errors.

For Mavericks' fans, those two simple words sum up last night's 6-3 loss to the Evansville Otters at Taylor Stadium. Despite solid pitching from Mavs' starter Josh Kerschen (6 innings, 3 earned runs and 4 strikeouts) and reliever Chad Giannetti (3 innings, 1 earned run and 5 strikeouts), the Mavericks' defense once again cost the team any chance of victory.

With the five errors last night, Mid-Missouri has now committed 13 errors in their last six games and haven't had an errorless game since the last day of June.

Otter's All-Star hurler Ben Foster (5-2) allowed just two earned runs in six innings of work to pick up the victory for Evansville (22-18). The Mavericks' loss, coupled with last night's Windy City victory over Richmond, leaves the team just 1/2 game above the Thunderbolts, who currently occupy the West Division basement.

On the bright side, Mavericks' outfielder Eli Albertson was informed before the game that he will be attending the Frontier League All-Star game as a reserve. Albertson joins Mavericks' first-baseman Thomari Story-Harden and outfielder Brent Metheny, who were both voted in as starters for the July 13th game in Washington, Pennsylvania. Metheny also extended his current hit streak to 24 games last night.

The Mavs and the Otters play the second of a three game set tonight at Taylor Stadium. The Otters will send Cody Blackard (1-0) to the mound, while the Mavs will start Auggie Rodriguez (0-4). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

Recap of July 5, 2005
On the verge of falling into the cellar for the first time since June 21, the Mid-Missouri Mavericks reverted back to their ninth inning heroics.

The Mavericks (13-25) scored a pair of runs with one out in the ninth inning to reel off a 5-4, come from behind victory over the Windy City Thunderbolts (12-27) Tuesday at Taylor Stadium. The victory was Mid-Mo’s third ninth inning comeback this season, and puts them a game and a half ahead of Thunderbolts for fifth place in the West Division.

Mid-Missouri broke a scoreless tie in the 6 th, with three runs off Windy City starter Josh Glynn. Brent Metheny, who extended his hit streak to a Frontier-League leading 23 games with a second inning double, plated Dusty Hillman with a single. The Mavs scored two more in the sixth off a pair of botched would-be double play balls by Windy City, who committed four errors on the night.

However, the Thunderbolts answered with a pair of runs in the seventh, and knocked Steve Soja out in the eighth with back-to-back doubles from Nick Johnson and Justin Schuda, the second which tied the game. The ‘Bolts added a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Scott Vetter.

That set the stage for a dramatic bottom of the ninth which kept the Mavericks off the cellar. Greg Buscher led off the frame with a single off Brandon Kellbach. Pinch-runner Thomas Bowker advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Kottke, and scooted to third on a base hit by Dusty Young, off former Mavericks hurler Lenny Bays, who replaced Kellbach. Bays would not retire a batter, as Josh Wettlaufer pulled a single to right, plating Bowker to tie the game. Three pitches later, Dusty Hillman lined a single to center, and center fielder Justin Niefer had trouble scooping up the ball, allowing Dusty Young to touch home plate, giving the Mavericks the win.

Mid-Mo begins a three-game series with Evansville at Taylor Stadium tonight. Game time is at 7:05 PM and can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 4, 2005
Unfortunately, July 4th fireworks weren’t the only thing exploding at Taylor Stadium Monday.

The Windy City Thunderbolts, who entered play with the worst offense in the Frontier League, exploded for 12 runs and 15 hits en route to an easy 12-5 victory over Mid-Missouri. The Mavericks also helped out the visitors cause by committing three errors. The loss dropped Mid-MO to 12-25, and now are just one-half game ahead of Windy City (12-26) in the West Division.

The Thunderbolts got off to an early 2-0 lead, and constantly added to it, knocking Mid-MO starter David Marchbanks (0-2) out after just three innings. Nick Johnson, Ryan Andrews, and Jason Crosland all launched home runs for Windy City.

Eli Albertson hit a solo round-tripper in the defeat, while Brent Metheny extended his current hit streak to 22 games.

The rubber match is tonight at 7:05 PM, which also decides who will be cellar bound after the series. You can catch the broadcast live at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 3, 2005
The fireworks after last night's game were beautiful. The game itself...not so much. But if you cheer for the Mid-Missouri Mavericks, any kind of game that snaps a seven game losing streak has it's own kind of beauty.

Nick Renault (4-1) pitched seven solid innings last night, leading the Mavericks to a 7-3 win over the Windy City Thunderbolts at Taylor Stadium in the first of a three game set. Renault gave up just two earned runs and struck out eight. Cooper Eddy finished off the final two innings to earn his fourth save of the season.

The two teams entered last night's game in an unfortunate battle for last place in the Frontier League's West Division - with the Mavericks starting the day 1/2 game up on Windy City. And in the first inning, it looked as if the Mavs would fall back into the all-too-familiar territory of last place as centerfielder Josh Wettlaufer dropped a fly ball with two outs that directly lead to the Thunderbolts' first run.

Windy City held a 3-1 advantage at one point in the game, but the Mavs battled back to tie the game in the fifth. Mid-MO took a 4-3 lead in the sixth, and finally put the game out of reach with a 3 run eighth inning - helped largely by a couple of Windy City miscues.

Dusty Hillman and Greg Buscher both had three hit games for the Mavs, and Brett Metheny, with a third inning double off the centerfield wall, extended his hitting streak to 21 games.

The Mavs and Windy City square off in the second game of the series tonight at the special start time of 6:05PM. The Mavericks have moved the start time up one hour so that fans will have the best possible view of ABC17's "Fire in the Sky", presented by U.S. Cellular. It's also KPLA/KRCG/U.S. Cellular Community Night as 100% of game-day ticket sales will go to benefit the Columbia Council of PTAs. And don't miss your chance to win some of the great prizes that will be available tonight, courtesy of Slacker's CD's and Games.

Recap of July 2, 2005
On Friday Thomari Story-Harden hit three home runs in a losing effort...last night the Mavericks could have used one of those home runs. Mid-Missouri lost to River City 11-6 at T.R. Hughes ballpark Saturday, as the Rascals finished the three game sweep. The Mavericks were down 8-1 and could not escape from the early hole, scoring five runs to make the game close, but eventually falling to 11-24 on the season.

Aaron Ledbetter (7-0) picked up the victory for the Rascals (20-15), despite having a sub-par outing by his standards, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in six innings. Auggie Rodriguez (0-4) picked up the loss, allowing five earned runs and five hits in just 2 2/3 innings of work.

On the bright side for the Mavericks, Brent Metheny extended his hit streak to 19 games with a second inning single off Ledbetter. The hit streak is currently the longest streak in Frontier League play. The Mavericks return home for a six game home stand beginning tonight at 6:05 against Windy City. It’s Columbia Daily Tribune night at Taylor Stadium. Six people can get into the park for just $10 with a coupon from the Tribune. The Mavericks will also have their most electrifying fireworks display of the season after tonight’s game...just in time to get you ready for the 4th. You can catch the broadcast live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of July 1, 2005
Not even a Frontier League record tying power display could prevent the Mid-Missouri Mavericks from losing their sixth straight game.

River City outslugged the Mavericks 18-9 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark Friday, despite three home runs by Thomari Story-Harden. The Rascals(19-15) pounded out 19 hits, setting a season-high in both hits and runs. For the Mavericks(11-23), the 18 runs allowed tied a season-worst, as Rockford plated 18 at Taylor Stadium on May 30.

The Rascals scored nine runs in the first two innings, quickly placing the game out of reach, and knocking Mid-MO starter Mike Schaeffer(1-1) after one inning. That allowed River City to withstand a home run derby by Story-Harden, who launched a pair of home runs off River City hurler Tony Marsala(1-0), who won in his first professional start. In the seventh, Story-Harden added his record-tying third round tripper, clocking a three-run homer an estimated 405 feet into left-center. Thomari had a chance to hold the record by himself, but grounded to short in the 9 th. Through 34 games, Story-Harden has equaled his 2004 home run total.

Greg Buscher also went deep for the Mavericks, and Brent Metheny extended his hit streak to 18 games, which is currently the league’s longest streak.

Mid-MO will attempt to avoid the sweep at 7:05 PM Saturday, with LHP Auggie Rodriguez taking the mound. The game can be heard live on the Mavericks’ website, www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of June 30, 2005
As the Mid-Missouri Mavericks have learned this year, anything and everything goes wrong during a losing streak.

Yesterday, the Mavericks fell 9-8 to River City at T.R. Hughes Ballpark despite belting out four home runs. River City’s Mike Madrid singled home Mike Conner with 1-out in the bottom of the ninth, completing the dramatic victory for the Rascals (18-15). River City fought back from behind three times, as Mid-Missouri (11-22) lost their fifth straight game.

On the bright side, Dusty Hillman, Eli Albertson, Thomari Story-Harden and Brent Metheny all went deep for Mid-Mo. Metheny’s home run was a towering 3-run moon-shot that cleared the 35-foot right field fence in the third inning, giving the Mavericks a 6-1 lead at that point. The blast also extended Metheny’s hit streak to 18 games, which is currently the longest in Frontier League play.

However, ineffective Mavericks’ pitching continually allowed River City to claw back into the ballgame. Starter Danny Shuck allowed six runs and nine hits in six innings, including a pair of home runs to leadoff hitter Kirk McConnell, who finished the game with 6 RBI’s. Cooper Eddy(0-2) was tagged with the loss, handing out three runs in 2.1 innings.

The Mavericks are now 0-3 on the season versus their Eastern Missouri rivals. Mid-Mo will look to pick up their first win against River City tonight at 7:05 PM from T.R. Hughes. Catch the game live on the web at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of June 29, 2005

The Mavericks’ bullpen was in extended action for the third consecutive game on Wednesday night. And unfortunately the bullpen didn't fare any better in the third game than in the first two.

The Mavericks (11-21) lost their fourth consecutive game - a 13-3 final at the hands of the Kalamazoo Kings (21-13). With the loss, the Mavericks dropped a place in the Frontier League's West Division - from fourth to fifth.

Right-hander Steve Soja (3-4), who entered his start with a 1.91 ERA and two complete games, pitched four-plus innings, allowing nine runs and 10 hits.

Soja gave way to Josh Kerschen, Rick McKernan, and catcher Matt Oakes. The trio allowed four runs and eight hits. It was the second-straight game that Oakes was summoned to pitch.

Recap of June 28, 2005

There weren’t many close calls for Umpire Max McLeary to make Tuesday night as the Mavericks (11-20) lost their third consecutive game, 16-2 (to the Kalamazoo Kings).

Left-hander David Marchbanks, signed Tuesday morning, didn’t fare well in his debut with the club. He made a throwing error trying to retire the first batter he faced.

Kalamazoo (19-13) center fielder Darryl Blaze advanced to third on the play. He scored on a single one batter later

Recap of June 27, 2005
As part of their bizarre 2005 season, the Mid-Missouri Mavericks have turned the phrase “friendly confines” to describe Taylor Stadium inside out. The Mavericks fell to 3-11 at home, dropping a 9-4 decision Monday to Kalamazoo in the opening game of a three-game set. The loss was Mid-Missouri’s(11-19) second in a row, while Kalamazoo(18-13) broke out of a three game skid.

Despite 10 hits allowed in five innings by starter Nick Renault, who reeled off a gutsy effort pitching on three days rest, the Mavericks had the game tied at 3 entering the seventh. That was when the Kings teed off of a trio of Mid-Mo pitching, scoring six runs over the final three frames. Tim Baywal, who was 5-5 with 3 RBI, drove in the game-winning run with a seventh inning single. The 6-8 hitters supplied most of the offense for Kalamazoo, going a combined 12-14. Kris Gross(0-1) who allowed the Baywal single, yielded four hits and two runs in a pair of innings, taking the loss. Brad Blackwell(1-1) earned the win for Kalamazoo, tossing 1.2 innings of perfect baseball. Josh Daws hurled the final 1.1 innings to chalk up his sixth save.

The Mavs look to even up the series tonight, as former 7th round pick David Marchbanks makes his Frontier League debut tonight. First pitch is at 7:05 PM, and can be heard live on the Mavericks website at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of June 26, 2005
The makings of a bizarre finale began Sunday when first pitch was delayed 30 minutes. That was when umpires Chet Horton and Jim Shaley showed up at V.A. Memorial Stadium.

Nearly three hours later, the Mid-Missouri Mavericks failed in an attempt to sweep Chillicothe on their home field. The Paints downed Mid-MO 9-6, in a game that saw a run taken away, a sacrifice fly double play, a monster home run, and shoddy defense. The victory moved Chillicothe(15-15) back to .500, while the Mavericks(11-18) remained in fourth place in the West Division.

The Paints appeared to have drawn first blood in the 3 rd inning, as John Ramistella scored on a sac fly hit by Jose Rodriguez. However, following a wholesale Mid-MO protest, Shaley erased the run, ruling that Ramistella left the bag early.

However, Chillicothe struck with a 3-run inning in the 6 th, as Andrew Kasparek broke a 1-1 tie with a 3-run blast. However, the Mavericks answered with four runs in the top of the 8 th, thanks to two Chillicothe miscues, and a moonshot 3-run round-tripper by Thomari Story-Harden. Yet, the Mavs responded with worse defense in the bottom half of the 8 th, committing three errors, and Kasparek struck again with a 2-run double, that transferred the lead back to the Paints.

John Martinez allowed 11 hits in eight innings of work, but yielding just one earned run to improve to 7-0. Cooper Eddy(0-1) was dealt the loss for Mid-Mo, pitching in relief of starter Mike Schaeffer, who allowed five runs in seven innings.

The Mavericks return home to Taylor Stadium tonight for the next three games, all against the Kalamazoo Kings. First pitch of the opener is at 7:05 PM and can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of June 25, 2005
Mid-Missouri "walked" home with a victory on Saturday evening at V.A. Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. Four Paints pitchers combined to walk 10 Mavericks hitters Saturday night, helping Mid-MO to a 8-6 win. The win gives the Mavericks (11-17) another road series victory - their fourth straight road series win.

Mid-Missouri broke through in the top of the first inning when Eli Albertson hit a two-out homer to left. The Paints tied it in the bottom of the inning when Beau Blacken walked with the bases loaded. The Mavericks scored twice in the second on a two-run shot by LF John Wright. The Paints briefly took a 5-3 lead in the third with a four run inning.

But the Mavs tied the game at 5-5 in the fourth, and added three in the seventh on a two-run double by Wright and a run-scoring sacrifice fly by SS Dusty Young.

Danny Shuck (3-2) surrendered five runs on six hits in six innings of work to pick up the win for the Mavs. Josh Kershen pitched three solid innings of relief for his first save of the season. Chillicothe and Mid-Missouri will play the final game of their three-game series tonight at 6:05 when John Martinez (6-0, 1.66) pitches for the Paints against the Mavs' Mike Schaffer (1-0, 1.35). You can hear the game live over the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of June 24, 2005
The Mavericks finally provided Steve Soja with run support.

After averaging just over three runs a game in the ace's first five starts, Mid-Mo exploded for 11 runs on 18 hits, crushing the Chillicothe Paints 11-2 at V.A. Memorial Stadium Friday. The Mavericks(10-17) increased their 4th place lead to a game in a half on Gateway and Windy City.

Mid-Missouri plated four runs in the second inning, begginning with a Thomari Story-Harden solo HR to left-center. Although the Paints would slice the lead in half in the bottom of the 3rd, the Mavericks answered with a 3-run 5th inning, including a 2-run double by Brent Metheny, who extended his season-long hit streak to 12 games.

Soja improved to 3-3 with another terrific outing, scattering six hits and a pair of runs in eight innings. Kris Gross pitched a scoreless night to seal the victory for Mid-Missouri. The loss was Chillicothe's third in a row, dropping them to 14-14. Danny Shuck(2-2) will be on the hill tonight as the Mavericks look for their third win in a row. First pitch is at 5:05 PM and you can catch all the action live on www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of June 23, 2005
Nick Renault wanted to own Mike Gallaway on Thursday night in Florence, Kentucky. Renault conquered the Frontier League’s leading home run and RBI leader, and the rest of the Freedom, en route to a 2-1 victory at Champion Window Field. Renault (3-1) struck out a Mavericks’ season high 14 batters and allowed just one run on four hits in 8+ innings of work. The Renault performance comes on the heels of a 13-strike out complete game last Friday against Chillicothe.

The Mavericks provided Renault with just enough offense in the seventh inning. Mid-MO hitters were stifled most of the game by the brilliant pitching performance of Jason Brunke, a right hander making his professional debut. However, the Mavericks plated two runs in the seventh, the first on an RBI double down the left field line by Matt Oakes. Thomari Story-Harden then scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Greg Buscher. That was all the offence Renault would need as he continued to mow through batters. As for Gallaway, the center fielder kept his hit streak alive at 27-games with a single in the 9th inning, but struck out his first three times up against Renault.

Cooper Eddy (S, 3) came on in the 9th to close the door on the Freedom and earn his second save of the series.

With Gateway’s 7-3 loss to Washington last night, the Mavericks now find themselves in sole possession of fourth place in the six-team West Division of the Frontier League.

The Mavericks now head to Chillicothe to begin a three game series with the Paints. Steve Soja will be on the hill for tonight’s game which begins at 6:05 PM. You can hear the game live over the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of June 22, 2005
The Mid-Missouri Mavericks fell in the middle portion of a three-game series 11-5 at Florence Wednesday night. Mark Harris(3-0) pitched six strong innings of three-run ball to notch the victory, while Auggie Rodriguez(0-3) took the loss, lasting just two innings and allowing six runs, although only two were earned.

The Freedom scored all six of those runs off Rodriguez in the second inning, due to a pair of Mavericks errors, and a three-run titanic blast by Frontier League HR leader Mike Galloway. The Mavericks answered with three in the fourth, but Galloway's second home run of the game sealed the victory for Florence.

Brent Metheny extended his hit streak to a Maverick season-high 10 games, while Eli Albertson has hit safetly in six contests.

Nick Renault takes the hill tommorrow for Mid-Missouri as they look to capture the series. Game time is at 6:05 PM and can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com

Recap of June 21, 2005
It may only last a day. It may last longer. But for the first time since the beginning of the 2004 season, the Mavericks are NOT in last place.

With a 6 - 3 win over the Florence Freedom yesterday afternoon, the Mavericks record improved to 8 - 16 on the season. Couple the Mavs' win with a Windy City loss, and the Mavericks find themselves 1/2 game up on the Thunderbolts, good enough for fifth place in the Frontier League's West Division.

Playing an afternoon game in front of 1,036 at Florence's Champion Window Field, Mavericks' newly acquired pitcher Mike Schaffer scattered 6 hits in 6 2/3 innings of work to pick up his first victory as a Maverick. Cooper Eddy came on in the seventh to close out the game and pick up his second save of the 2005 season.

After the Freedom tied the score at 2 in the bottom of the third, the Mavericks tallied a single run in each of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th innings and held on for the 6 - 3 win. Eli Albertson finished the game 3 for 5, with 2 runs scored. Greg Buscher and Brent Metheny each had two hits in the game, and both extended their hitting streaks to nine games. Thomari Story-Harden, back after missing Sunday's game on bereavement leave, smacked his fifth round-tripper of the season.

The Mavericks and the Freedom play the second of a three game set, tonight at 6PM. You can hear all of the action live on the Internet at www.midmomavs.com.

Recap of June 19, 2005
The Mid-Missouri Mavericks squandered another opportunity to climb out of the cellar.

The Mavericks dropped the finale of a six-game homestand to Chillicothe 10-5 Sunday at Taylor Stadium. The loss keeps Mid-Missouri(7-16) one-half game behind fourth-place Windy City and Gateway in the Frontier League’s West Division. The Paints(13-11) won their second in a row, and finish their six-game road swing through Missouri with a .500 record.

Pitching was not the Mavericks’ strong suit, as starter Danny Shuck lasted just 2.1 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs. Despite that, Mid-Mo chalked up enough offense to take a 5-3 lead into the fifth inning.

However, the Paints knotted the score up in the fifth, and tallied three unearned runs off Rick McKernan(0-2) and Josh Kerschen to take the lead for good in the sixth frame. Following four innings from starter Josh Stout, Chillicothe reliever Jeremy Durkee(1-2) stifled the Mid-Mo bats, yielding just one hit in his four innings out of the bullpen.

The Mavericks compiled ten hits in the loss, including two by new CF Josh Wettlaufer, who was 2-5 with a pair of RBI’s in his Mid-Mo debut. Brent Metheny and Greg Buscher also extended their hit streaks to eight games each.

The Mavericks enjoy a day off Monday before heading to Florence for a three-game series with the Freedom. The opener is at 6:05 Tuesday, which will be broadcast live on www.midmomavs.com

Recap of June 18, 2005
Over the past three games, the number 13 has more in common with Friday the 13th than luck.Saturday marked the third consecutive night that the opposing 13th batter broke up a perfect game by a Mavericks hurler. And on this night, it was John Wright’s pair of errors on a routine fly ball hit by John Ury, that opened the door to a 4-run 5 th frame by Chillicothe, who held on to win 5-3 at Taylor Stadium.

The win came despite another outstanding pitching performance by Steve Soja(2-3), who allowed just five hits and one earned run in his second complete game of the season. At the same token, Chillicothe RHP Perry Cunningham(3-0) tossed his first complete game of the year, yielding eight hits and three runs in the win.

The Mavericks took the early 1-0 advantage on a Greg Buscher RBI single in the 2nd. But in the 5th, Ury hit a fly ball muffed by John Wright, who then errantly threw in the dugout, putting Ury on third. Beau Blacken drove him in with a double, and on the next pitch, Blacken scored on a sacrifice bunt in which Thomari Story-Harden misfielded a rushed throw by third baseman Greg Buscher. The Paints took a 2-1 lead, scored twice more in the inning, and would hold on from there.

Metheny was the hitting star in the loss, going 3-4 with a HR and 2 RBI, launching the round-tripper with no one on base in the 6th. Metheny and Buscher both extended hit streaks to seven in the loss.

The Paints and Mavericks will play the rubber match tomorrow at 6:05 PM. The game will be carried live on News/Talk 1400 KFRU and on the Mavericks web site, www.midmomavs.com

Recap of June 17, 2005
Mavericks rewarded with win

By DAVE MATTER of the Tribune’s staff Published Saturday, June 18, 2005

As the Mid-Missouri Mavericks filed out of the clubhouse last night, two stadium attendants passed by, lugging six leftover cases of beer. Some Mavericks assumed the haul was their reward.

"You mean those aren’t for us?" outfielder Brent Metheny pleaded.

They weren’t, but free Budweiser would have been well deserved after an 18-1 rout of the visitors from Chillicothe, Ohio.

Less than 24 hours after Thursday’s 16-2 loss to Florence, the Mavericks tormented Chillicothe pitching with 19 hits, including three home runs. It was the second 19-hit game for the Mavericks this week after they blasted Florence 12-3 Tuesday.
